BUILDING ENTREPRENEURSHIP CAPABILITY

Stirling University has been helping Universities in developing countries develop entrepreneurship capability since the 1980s. This has been achieved through  two routes:

  • Providing expertise and consultancy through EU and DFID funding (projects have been run in Slovenia, the former Yugoslavia, Romania and Uganda).
  • Providing support and knowledge transfer through British Council Higher Education Institutional Links.

British Council HELs have been established with:

  • The Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies, (then) Bombay (1989-1993);
  • the University of Peradeniya, Kandy, Sri Lanka (1994-1997);
  • the University of Rajarata, Sri Lanka in 1998
  • Makerere University Business School, Nakawa, Uganda.

Makerere University
Business School

Centre staff adapted Stirling Management Extension Programmes in the Makerere University Business School, Uganda to alleviate graduate unemployment. Over 90 per cent of unemployed graduates who took part were offered jobs by host companies.
